Ethan Klay (1-0) diced up the Webber International lineup for 7 innings and got the win for the Loggers. Quick and efficient innings in the early going enabled Klay to pitch deep into the game, as the freshman used his defense and pitched to contact en route to his first collegiate win. Over 7 innings, Klay allowed only 2 hits and struck out 5 batters, while keeping Webber off the scoreboard. Relieved by Ben Johnson in the 8th inning, Klay left the Loggers with a 5 run lead that Johnson would hang on to. Sophomore Shayne McNally was able to close out Webber in the 9th, leaving the final score of the ballgame a 5-2 Logger win.
There were 4 Loggers with multiple hits in the contest, but Bryar Jansen was able to make the most of his hits, knocking in 2 RBI on the day. Dalton Fletcher, Brendan Hostettler, and Johnny Steinwart also chipped in 2 hits. Overall, the Loggers tallied 13 hits on the day off of 5 different Webber pitchers. The defense was flawless, committing no errors while making a few highlight reel plays. CJ Fleming and Rick Dour both made diving plays to keep runners off bases and runners from scoring.
"It's a good way to end the trip," said Coach Ron Riggle of his team's performance. "It's nice to go back home and begin conference play with a little momentum on our side."
The Loggers end their spring trip with a 7-7 record and a 4 game win streak. They begin conference play next weekend, talking on their rival Parkland Cobras. They play a double header on Saturday at Parkland, and follow with another double header at home on Sunday.
