LLCC - 66
Danville Area Community College - 89
Lincoln Land fell for the third straight game to start conference play. The Loggers lost to the Jaguars of Danville Area Community College, 89-66.
The Loggers in the first half were able to take an early lead
at 14-13. Danville rattled off 10 straight points and the Loggers quickly found themselves down by double digits. Danville used offensive rebounding to push their lead out as they had 6 first half offensive rebounds, 5 of which resulted in second chance points. On the night, Danville missed 23 shots that were rebounded and Lincoln Land only pulled in 12 of those misses, allowing 11 offensive rebounds. Easy transition Jaguar buckets also hurt the Loggers throughout the game, but especially in the first half. Going to the break, Lincoln Land already found themselves on the short end of a 43-31 game.
The second half Danville continued improving on their lead and Lincoln Land trailed by around 20 points for most of the half. The Loggers continued to fight and chip away though, and after a bucket and timeout with just under
4:00 left they trailed by only 12. However, Danville over the next two minutes went on a 13-0 run and the game was safely put away for the Jaguars. The final 89 points that Danville scored are the second most points the Loggers have given up this season.
A frustrated Chad Jones commented, "We make mistakes that we absolutely can't make at this point in the season. We failed to box out, failed to get back on transition, failed to close out, all things that you learn early in your basketball career. We will not be able to compete in this conference if we can't do even the small simple things"
Sophomore D'Aaron Owens led the Loggers and the game in scoring with 18 points. Freshman DJ Doolin was the only other Logger in double digits with 12. Danville had 5 players over 10 points. Lincoln Land also did not succeed in sharing the ball as they had a season low 8 assists.
Lincoln Land is now 10-10 and 0-3 in conference. The Loggers return home to play Lincoln College Wednesday at home.
