Illinois Wesleyan JV - 98
Lincoln Land - 62
The Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball team came home to Cass Gymnasium for the first time this season, but were unable to come away with a victory as they fell 98-62 to Illinois Wesleyan's JV.Â
Lincoln Land was unable to hang with Illinois Wesleyan's hot shooting for most of the night and went in to the half trailing by 17, 49-32. Lincoln Land did play short handed, down three potential starters, and their tiredness showed early in the game as at the half Illinois Wesleyan had pulled in 10 offensive rebounds, to the Loggers 8 defensive rebounds. Although the Loggers corrected this issue in the second half, their deficit widened. Illinois Wesleyan got easy buckets as they shot 50% (35/70) for the game, out-rebounded the Loggers (29 to 28), and committed 7 less turnovers, all while dishing out 24 assists. All of that added up to doom for LLCC.
The Loggers did have a few bright spots, including the play of sophomores Logan Clayton and Nic Hagel. Hagel led all scorers with 17, while also grabbing 10 rebounds to secure a double-double. Clayton tied for the second most points with 16. Illinois Wesleyan ended with 7 players in double digits.Â
Lincoln Land has a rough weekend ahead as they look to get their first victory of the season next Friday against Vincennes, or Saturday against John A. Logan, both being played at Vincennes University.Â
Lincoln Land fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss.Â
