The Lincoln Land baseball team wrapped up their annual four game conference set with Heartland Community College on Sunday, splitting the double header, losing 4-1 and winning 19-4 to take the series three game to one. The Loggers extended their record to 26-8 on the season and are now 13-7 in the MWAC.
Â
In game one, the loggers struck out a combined eleven times and only collected two hits in the 4-1 loss.  Heartland winning pitcher Alec Altmeyer kept the Logger offense at bay, allowing only one run in his six innings of work.  Logger third baseman Dalton Fletcher drove in the only Logger run with his single in the top of the second inning that scored Michael Ryan.  Xavier Collier had the only other hit for LLCC, a single in the first inning.
Â
Matt Steinhof (1-4)Â suffered the loss for Lincoln Land. Â He allowed all four of the Hawk's runs in his 4.3 innings of work, surrendering eight hits, three walks, and had four strikeouts.
Â
The Loggers trailed the Hawks 4-0 after three innings in game two, but the Logger offense came alive in the top of the fourth, as they scored nineteen unanswered runs over the next three innings to take a commanding lead. Â Xavier Collier, Jonathan Walder, and Noah Powless had three hits apiece and CJ fleming and Aaron Steinhoff added two each. Â Collier drove in a total of five runs and Walder had four runs batted in.
Â
Logger starter Rick Dour (4-1) threw all six innings for the shortened complete game win.  Dour scattered nine hits and three walks, allowing four runs and  he struck out two.
Â
"Would have been nice to get a few of those runs from game two in game one," coach Riggle said after the games Sunday.  "Their pitcher (Altmeyer) really pounded the zone with all his pitches and kept our hitters from getting comfortable, got to give him credit.  Proud of the way we came back in game two to take the series.  Bottom line is we won three of four this weekend from what we consider to be one of the top programs in our conference, so no complaints."
Â
The Loggers will play again this coming Wednesday, April 26th against Quincy University (DH) at home. Â First game is scheduled to start at 4pm.
