Loggers Sweep Macomb, move to 9-1
Lincoln Land pounded out twenty hits in game two of Friday's double header to secure a sweep over the Macomb Community College Monarchs, winning 21-6 in five innings. Loggers sophmore center fielder Sam Anderson led the charge going 4 for 4 with six RBIs, including a first inning grand slam that highlighted a nine run first inning. Nick Maton (2 for5) tripled twice in the inning to drive in three runs. The Loggers kept the offense rolling, scoring four runs in the second, three in the third, and finished with five in the fourth. Seven Loggers finished with multiple hits. Leadoff man Rick Dour (2 for 3) had had two singles to go go along with his two RBIs. Second baseman Xavier Collier (2 for 4, RBI) had two doubles on the day and first baseman Noah Powless continued to stay hot, going 3 for 4, including an RBI double. Catcher Clay Bachman was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two walks and third baseman Dalton Fletcher was 3 for 4 with three singles and two RBIs.
Tristan Weaver (2-0)
Sophmore Nate Welch(1-0) earned his first win of the season and the first of his college career. Nate came on in relief of starter Aaron Steinhoff, pitching three and third scoreless innings, allowing two hits and walking two. " I'm proud of Nate and happy for him, " coach Riggle said after the game. " He came in a did exactly what we needed him to do, threw strikes and let his defense work behind him."
In game one, Loggers lefty Tristan Weaver (2-0) went five solid innings in the 6-3 victory to earn his second win of the season.. Weaver allowed only one run, a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning, on three hits, four walks, and six strikeouts. Rick Dour threw a scoreless sixth inning and started the seventh by loading the bases and allowing two runs without recording an out. Closer Nick Maton came in and shut the door, getting three outs to earn his third save of the season.
Lincoln Land took an early 1-0 on Xavier Collier's first inning homerun to right center, his first of the season. The Loggers scored again in the second, when first baseman Austin Deal (1 for 4) doubled in CJ Fleming (2 for 2) to give LLCC a 2-0 lead. In the fifth inning, center fielder Aaron Steinhoff (1 for 2) tripled in a run and scored on Rick Dour's (2 for 2) RBI single. Sam Anderson (1 for 1) added an RBI single in the sixth for an insurance run.
Lincoln Land is now 9-1 on the season. They will finish their Florida trip this weekend with a nine innning game Saturday at 9:00am against Southeastern University and Sunday at 3:30pm against Canada Baseball Academy.
