Lincoln Land - 58
Lincoln College - 80
The Lincoln Land men's basketball team fell on the road to conference foe Lincoln College, 80-58.
As is typical in Logger loses, Lincoln Land had a slow start and found themselves down double digits early in the game. The Lincoln College Lynx came out on fire making 7 of their first 9 three point field goals. The hot shooting built Lincoln's lead up to 13 early in. Lincoln Land cut in to the lead and on a few occasions got it below 8, but never got the deficit lower than 5. Lincoln Land went in to the break down 40-33 and felt like they were in a much better position.
In the first few minutes of the second half the game remained around the 7 point difference until about half way through the half things started fall apart for the Loggers. Lincoln Land hit a stretch of five straight turnovers, three of those turnovers led directly to Lincoln layups, and then Lincoln Land found themselves down by 18 and too far down to get back in the game.Â
"We beat ourselves tonight. Â I am not taking away from how well Lincoln played tonight, but they shot well because we had defensive break downs that gave them open looks. Too many of our turnovers were foolish and led right to points for them. We didn't play near well enough to give us even a chance to win tonight and that is what is going to stick with me tonight,." stated a disappointed Head Coach Chad Jones following the loss.
Lincoln Land's loss fell on two categories: the Lynx were 12/24 from three and Lincoln Land committed 16 turnovers that led to 26 points for Lincoln. Lincoln Land only got two scorers in double digits, freshman Trace Gentry had 12 on four made threes and sophomore Alex Portwood ended with 11.
Lincoln Land is now 14-7 and fall to 1-3 in the MWAC. They will head back out on the road to play the first place Parkland Cobras Saturday afternoon.Â
