Loggers men's basketball score second victory in a row

LLCC - 85

Blackburn College JV - 52

The Lincoln Land men's basketball team picked up their second win in a row after defeating Blackburn College JV 85-52.

This year's edition of the Logger men's basketball team has typically had slower starts and tonight fit into that mold. Lincoln Land at one point found themselves down 17-15 at one point around halfway through the first half. However, Lincoln Land shook the slow start and closed on a 32-10 run to put themselves up 47-27 at the half.

In the second half the Loggers continued to pull away as  defensive stops and forced turnovers led the Loggers to easy baskets. A steal and score by sophomore D'Aaron Owens pushed the Logger lead to its high of 41 points. Good ball movement and offensive rebounding were keys for Lincoln Land, who was able to shoot nearly 20 more shots than the Beavers and helped lead to 21 assists on the night.

Head Coach Chad Jones shared some of his thoughts: "Tonight we were able to do things that we have talked all year about doing. If you look at our shot charts, nearly all of our shots are at the rim, which if we run our offense right, we put ourselves in a position to do. I challenged them at half to lock down defensively and rebound the ball better and for the first five minutes of the second half, they scored 3 points, because we did both of those things. We now have a really important stretch of four games to get to Christmas break with as many wins as possible."

Every available Logger played at least 14 minutes and all 11 Loggers scored. The leading scorers for Lincoln Land were sophomore D'Aaron Owens and freshman Nic Hagel who each contributed 13. Every starter for LLCC ended near or in doubt digits with sophomore Trace Genty adding 10, and sophomore Jerrid Crosby and freshman DJ Doolin adding 8 each to go with Owens and Hagel. Freshman Ryan Lacefield also got into double digits with 10. Freshman Jake Pennell from Williamsville is still coming off a knee injury that has limited his playing time, pulled in a team high 6 rebounds in his second game of the season. Crosby and sophomore Jacob Rueter led the team with 4 assists a piece.

Lincoln Land is now 7-2 on the season. They will play next Wednesday at home against NJCAA D1 Lake Land.
