Loggers End Florida Trip, Win 5-3
Pitcher Chris RobinsonThe Loggers ended their Florida trip on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over the Century College Mighty Wood Ducks. Freshman pitcher Chris Robinson (1-1) earned his first collegiate win with 8 strong innings of work. "Chris was outstanding today, he pounded the strike zone and let his defense work behind him," coach Riggle said after the game. Robinson allowed all 3 of Century's runs (2 earned), while scattering 12 hits, striking out 10, and walking only one batter.
Lincoln Land led the entire game, scoring their first run in the first inning when first baseman Ben Hecht (3-3) doubled to left center field to score Tyler Ring. The Loggers tacked on another single run in the bottom of the 2nd when Peyton Minder scored on a Tyler Borski sacrifice fly. With the score 2-1, the Loggers struck again in their half of the 3rd inning, this time plating two runs on RBI singles from both Peyton Minder and Xavier Collier, both 2 for 4 on the day. Ben Hecht hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the 4th to finish the Logger's scoring for the game.
Century scored single runs in the top of the 5th and 7th innings to make the score 5-3. Lincoln Land freshman Logan Rearden came on in the bottom of the 7th and worked a clean inning to pick up his first save of the season.
Coach Riggle commented on the trip after the game "I'm proud of the effort the players gave down here. Playing 12 games in 9 days is not an easy task, but we worked out some things and we as a coaching staff feel good about our team and our chances heading into our conference season."
The Loggers head home with a 7-8 record and will look to open up their conference season next weekend against Lewis & Clark Community College.
