The Pirates Defeat the Loggers 79-85

LLCC – 79
North Central Missouri College – 85

Lincoln Land men's basketball team fell at home 85-79 to the Pirates of North Central Missouri College.

These two teams squared off earlier in the season. The Loggers were able to build a sizeable lead, but were unable to hold on and eventually fell. Tonight followed the same script. The Loggers held a 13 point lead at one point in the first half, but the lead was cut down to 7 at half, 41-34. North Central scored 11 of the first 13 points to take their first lead of the game, 45-43. The Loggers battled back and with just under 9:00 on the clock led by 7. However, for the next 7:00 the Pirates outscored Lincoln Land 18-2 and took a 9 point 75-66 lead with 2:27 left that they never relinquished. After a few buckets and free throws the Loggers eventually fell by the final of 85-79.

"Completely disappointing. We talked about everything we needed to avoid in the second half and we came out and did all of those things. We gave them too many live ball turnovers to even give ourselves a chance. If we continue to not play tough, we will continue to lose," commented Head Coach Chad Jones following the game.

Lincoln Land committed only 13 turnovers, but the damaging stat was that those 13 turnovers led to 29 points of on turnovers for North Central Missouri. Nearly every Logger turnover led directly to a North Central basket. The Loggers did not shoot the ball well for most of the evening, however, they did outrebound North Central 52-37, but that stat was the lone bright spot.

Lincoln Land was led by freshman Jacob Knox who had a career high for the second game in a row with 20 to tie for the game high. Sophomore Harold Robertson had 14, Sophomore Eddie Longmeyer has 13 and added 8 assists, and Freshman Alex Portwood had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Lincoln Land fell to 9-6. The play region opponent Rend Lake in Ina, IL on Saturday.
