The Lincoln Land men's basketball team dropped a heart breaker 89-86 in overtime to conference foe Danville Area Community College.
Â
Much like their last game the Loggers stumbled out of the gate and saw themselves down 26-13 a little over halfway through the first half. However the Loggers chipped away and a late first half bucket cut the deficit to 3 points going in to halftime.
Â
In the first possession of the second half Lincoln Land tied the game at 39 on a three pointer from sophomore Marshall Corbin. A few minutes later the Loggers took their first lead of the game with around 16 minutes left. There were a total of 6 lead changes and four ties through the end of regulation play. Lincoln Land built a lead as high as 4 points, but were unable to pull away and also found themselves down as many as 6 in the closing minutes. Freshmen Alex Portwood got fouled with :16.4 left in the game and knocked in both free throws to even it up. Lincoln Land held strong on the last defensive possession of the regulation and the stop sent the game to overtime with it knotted at 79 apiece.
Â
In the five minute bonus period each team traded buckets and the lead a total of six times. Sophomore Tyler Burdine made 1 of 2 free throws with :34 left to even up the score yet again. Again the Loggers were tasked with holding on defense on the last possession of the game and unfortunately were unable to do so. As the shot clock was winding down DACC hit a 25 foot contested three pointer that left only :02.4 left on the clock. The Loggers were out of timeouts and hurried the ball in bounds, but were unable to get a clean look at the basket and fell 89-86.
Â
One stat that hurt the Loggers was rebounding. DACC pulled down 16 offensive rebounds which led to 33 second chance points, 23 of which were in the second half or overtime. This was in stark contrast to the 8 second chance points that the Loggers scored, while also pulling down 16 total rebounds less.

"We came on the road against the preseason favorite in our conference and were a few bounces away from winning the game. It took a great shot to beat us. We have things were need to work on. We gave up to many offensive rebounds, gave up some foolish and-one fouls, and had some bad turnovers. With all that said, we put ourselves in a position to win by playing as a team and playing with some energy. Overall, this was a very solid effort." Reflected Head Coach Chad Jones following the tough loss.
Â
Sophomore Eddie Longmeyer was the star of the game. Longmeyer had a game high 30 points including multiple big and important buckets. He brought down 7 rebounds and handed out 8 assists, also game highs, while playing over 42 of the 45 minutes. Freshman Sam Kaufman continues to play well going 3-for-4 from three point arch and totaling 17 points. Sophomore Marshall Corbin was the other Logger in double figures with 10 points.
Â
Lincoln Land falls to 12-9 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. They return home to take on Illinois Central College on Saturday at 4 to see who will remain in second place in the conference standings.
