The LLCC men's soccer team concluded their season today in a 4-1 regional tournament loss to parkland college., The loggers finished with an 8-11 record on the season.
LLCC came out in the first half determined and looking very sharp. Freshman Adrian Manzano placed two gorgeous crosses in front of the goal with unfortunately no one there to put them in the net. Midway through the half freshman keeper Jake Oldani went up with a parkland player on a 50/50 ball and tried to punch the ball away. Both players collided and the ball went out of bounds. Once the play concluded the official called a foul on Oldani and awarded parkland a penalty kick.
Oldani came up huge saving the penalty kick and the follow up shot on the rebound., Coach Shawn Dunas stated, "We had started to get a little flat...we survived that penalty kick and we came back alive and finished the half strong."
The second half LLCC and parkland played even for the first 15 minutes. From the minute to the 21st minute parkland violated LLCC's right side and scored 3 goals. Dunas stated, "We could have recovered from the first goal. It's tough to recover when a team scores again within 30 seconds. It's tough morally on the boys.", The Loggers didn't even have time to make an adjustment before it was 3-0. It looked to be over for LLCC and then leading scorer Adrian Manzano netted his 13th goal of the season. Minutes later Parkland took advantage of a defensive slip and put the game back out of reach with their 4th and final goal. LLCC kept fighting and had numerous opportunities but were never able to find the back of the net again., The game and loggers season ended with a 4-1 defeat.
Coach Dunas stated, I'm proud of the effort the boys gave today. They never gave up. Even in the final minute they were still trying to score. Unfortunately we had a 5 minute lapse today that was the difference in the game. After the first goal we lost focus long enough for them to score 2 more. All in all it was a fairly even match." Parkland created more shots than the Loggers but Logger Coach Dunas,, "I'm going to miss these sophomores. This team faced a great deal if adversity this year. I wish the end result would have been better. But I'm proud of these boys. It's a blessing to be able to coach them... we will regroup over the spring and be ready to move forward next fall."
