The most exciting game of the season thus far left the Loggers on top, defeating a quick Lincoln Lynx team 3-2. The Lynx came to Lincoln Land tonight after coming off of a 3-0 win over 17
th ranked Jefferson College. It proved to be a match where both teams had something to prove.
The games started with Lincoln College drawing first blood on Eddie Millen's goal when he was able to turn on sophomore defender Saphir Salvador on the play. Shortly after, an unmarked Jason Velasquez was able to increase the lead with goal that put the Lynx on top 2-0. Freshman Tajay Small crushed into the back of the nets on a rebounded shot from 20 yards out. The half ended with the Loggers down by one goal 2-1.
LLCC made some half-time adjustments and came out with a different formation and looking like a different team. Freshman Harry White buried two goals to give the Loggers the lead 3-2 and the win. White's first goal was a header from a beautiful assist by Rafael Carvalho. Harry White drilled his 2
nd goal into the side of the net off of a Darwin Soto assist.
The win marked the final game in September for the Loggers as they finish 9-2 overall and 4-0 in Region 24. The Loggers will enjoy a week off to prepare for a run in October and a chance to heal all injuries. Coach Shawn Dunas stated, "I couldn't be more proud of the boys. Anytime you can come back from a 2-0 deficit against a good team, you have accomplished something special. These boys have turned things around and I am looking forward to making a run for the second Region Championship in school history."
LLCC will travel to East Peoria on October 2nd to take on 20
th ranked Illinois Central College.
