The Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball team traveled to Champaign to take on the Parkland Community College Cobras in a battle of teams who were looking for their first conference win. The game went back and forth and was still up in the air until the very end.
Parkland started off shooting hot and made their first 4 buckets to take a 10-2 lead only three minutes into the game. However, Lincoln Land came storming back and took a 1 point lead into halftime. The Loggers led 33-32.
The second half started very similar. Parkland rattled off a 10-0 run to take an 9 point lead and forced Lincoln Land to call an early second half time-out. The Loggers calmed down and settled in following the time out. The Loggers slowly crept back in and eventually tied the game with 6 minutes to go. Down the stretch scoring evaded the Loggers and Parkland was able to pull away. The final horn sounded and the Cobras were on top 68-63.
Lincoln Land saw balanced scoring effort from the team with nearly every Logger who played scoring.
Reed Willenborg led the way with 12. Marcus Graham pulled down a team high six rebounds and Quenton Lowe pulled in 5 offensive boards.
"We talk about the importance of one play on a game and tonight was a good example of how one play can come back and beat you. We had a few mental mistakes and that hurt us in the end. However, we played hard and as a team and that is what we need to do to win games." Coach Chad Jones commented after the game.
Both teams shot the ball well. Lincoln Land finished shooting 51% from the field (25/49) and Parkland finished at 51% as well (24/47). The difference in the game was made up at the free throw line. The Cobras went 11-15 and the Loggers finished 6-11.
Lincoln Land falls to 13-10 on the season and has a game Saturday against John Wood in Quincy.
