Loggers Lose to IVCC Eagles 72-62

Marcus Graham has season high 24 points loss to IVCC
The Lincoln Land Loggers stayed at home and took on the Illinois Valley Community College Eagles in a non-conference game. The Loggers came in needed a win to get back on track and they did not play like it in the first half. The Loggers could not buy a basket shooting 13% (2-15) from three point distance and 29% (10-34) from the field. The Eagles dominated the flow of the game and play and held a 36-24 edge going in to the half.

The Eagles pushed their lead to a game high 16 points with a 44-28 edge to start the 2nd half. The Loggers finally started to get going and start chipping away at the lead. With 4:00 to go Lincoln Land had cut the lead down to 2 points. Foolish turnovers, three total, in the final 3:00 of play, and missed shots by the Loggers allowed the Eagles to push the lead back out to 8 points. The Loggers were forced to be aggressive at the end, allowing the Eagles to go to the charity stripe to put the game away and the win, 72-62.

The Loggers shot a season low in all categories – 37% from the field, 29% from behind the three point arc, 44% from the free throw line.

"We have stayed in most games, but we cannot close down the stretch and that has been what is frustrating. We were playing with the momentum and made foolish mistakes that handed them the game. The last four minutes have got to get better. We can't win games when we play this bad at the end," commented Logger coach Chad Jones.

The Loggers were led in scoring by sophomore Marcus Graham who had a game high 24 points. Freshman Kendall Davis added 18 along with 7 rebounds. Sophomore Nick Heille, who played his first full game coming off of injury, scored 8 and pulled down game high 11 rebounds.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Corey McCrary who had 22.

The Loggers fall to 4-6. Lincoln Land hosts McKendree College's JV in Cass Gymnasium on Friday.
