NJCAA 17
th ranked Lincoln Land Community College Soccer Team secured the number one seed in Region XXIV in the all-important seeding of post season play. Rainy conditions saw the Loggers fall behind twice in the first half against Heartland Community College. The heroics of a hat trick from English sensation Harry White secured a 5-2 win late in the second half.
The match started with the Loggers coming out very lethargic and flat. Early in the match sophomore Wes Ridgeway attempted a pass back to keeper Ubaldo Olvera which was shy in pace and Heartland freshman Kevin Cheatham collected the ball and slid into the Loggers net. Later in the half Connor Carnduff evened the scored off of a Tajay Small assist. The first half ended with the score even at one.
Early second half action saw Erik Cardona stop on a ball that was questionably out of bounds and Cheatham made the Loggers pay again with his second goal of the match. Ten minutes later Harry White delivered the ball to Rafael Carvalho who evened the score by burying the ball into the back of the Heartland net.
Play remained even throughout the second half until Harry White drew a foul 25 yards outside the box. White set the ball up and placed the ball perfectly into the upper corner of the goal for the Logger's third goal of the match. Minutes later Harry placed a Joel Mutela pass brilliantly into the back of the net to put the LLCC ahead by two.
Harry White completed his hat trick as he headed his third goal of the match into the back of the net off of a gorgeous Joel Mutela assist. Sophomore Ubaldo Olvera made 4 great saves combined with impressive defensive efforts from Niall Torricelli and Ricky Crabtree to help secure the victory for the Loggers. Coach Dunas was thrilled that the boys constantly find ways to overcome adversity and continue finding new ways to win. He said, "I could not be more proud of the efforts that these young men continue to put forward."
LLCC take an impressive 11-2 record to St Louis Monday, October 7th as they face St. Louis Community College. The Loggers next home match will not be until October 26th when they host the first match of the Region XXIV Tournament.
