Coach Ty attended southeast High School from 1999-2003, where he was a 3-year varsity player and 2-year starter. During his 2002-2003 season he led the team with averaging 19 points per game. He was also named to the Alton Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team, Central State Eight 1st team all-conference and was an IBCA All-Star.
 
After High School Coach Ty attended John A Community College from 2003-2005 where he was a 2-year starter. During the 2004-2005 season he averaged 16 points per game which led the team. He was also named First team All-Conference and First team All-Region 24.
 
Following Coach Ty’s Jr. College debut he signed with SIUE and played from 2005-2007, where he was a 2-year stater. During his 2005-2006 season, he led the team averaging 13 points per game which led the team. He also set a school record for free throws attempts and makes in one game (19 for 22). He was also named NCAA Great Lakes Regional All-Tournament team and Second team All-GLVC. In his senior season from 2006-2007, he averaged 12 points a game which led the team prior to having a shoulder injury that cost him majority of that season although being able to play through injury, returned for a few games and averaged 10 points a game.
 
The dream of playing professionally did not happen due to multiple shoulder injuries throughout his High School and College career and eventually a torn Achilles following his collegiate career.
 
Stayed around the game by conducting individual workouts for middle school, high school, college, and professional athletes who played overseas. Coach Ty had the opportunity to work with Coach Shanklin in 2012 volunteer coaching with him at Lanphier High School. Started as an assistant coach at Lincoln Land in 2018.
