Lincoln Land's season ended Sunday with a 4–1 loss to No. 4 Heartland in the Region 24 championship match in Normal.
Heartland scored in the 16th minute, but Jordyn Loveless answered a minute later off an assist from Chloe Law. With the game tied 1–1, Lincoln Land was reduced to 10 players by a red card in the 30th minute. Heartland scored twice before halftime. The Loggers reorganized and held the Hawks to one goal in the second half.
"After the card, we could have stopped trying, but we dug in and played our hearts out," head coach David Meyer said. "We emptied the tank and left everything on the field today."
The Loggers finished with eight shots, including four on goal. Zoey Kyes made 16 saves.
"This year, we endured a tough game schedule with only three returning starters and worked through injuries along the way," Meyer said. "We got better every day and started to find our stride toward the end. I'm proud of this group for earning a third straight trip to the Region 24 final, and I'm grateful for what our sophomores have given this program."
Lincoln Land finished 6–9–3. Six of the Loggers' nine losses came against nationally ranked opponents.
