Several student-athletes from different teams took time between classes to participate in recess at the LLCC Child Care Development Center on Wednesday. It was great to see Logger student-athletes connecting with younger children and encouraging them to be active and healthy. By sharing their love for exercise, they not only promoted physical activity but also a sense of community and teamwork.
"Having our student-athletes take advantage of this opportunity to give back and be a positive role model in the community is what it's about," stated Lincoln Land athletic director Diana Couch. "It was also a nice break from their usual routine and gave them a chance to have some fun and enjoy the playful moments."
Often young children look up to athletes as role models and spending time with them during recess can inspire the children to stay active and try new things. Freshman Gus McCrary, who is a member of the Loggers Men's basketball team stated that "It was fun to walk in and see them smile, they were so happy we were there. I really enjoyed myself and it reminded me of the impact we can have as role models."
Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration usually observed in the first or second week of April, from April 5 to April 11 this year. It is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to promote the importance of early childhood education.
