Loggers Lose Two on Last Day of Honor Flight

Game 1 - Loggers Stymied By SWIC

The Loggers had trouble keeping up with Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) - Blue Storm in a 9-2 loss on Tuesday at Sauget, Illinois. A solo home run to left field by Seth Impson put Loggers on the board in the top of the second.

SWIC made the score 4-1 in the bottom of the third after Geovani Escandon hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Zach Zychowski tripled, scoring three runs. Ronald Bergren earned the win for SWIC. The lefty gave up four hits and one run over four and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking two. Mark Wolak took the loss for the Loggers. The righty went four innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out three and walking none.

Impson led Loggers with one run batted in. The right fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Nolan Turner and Impson each collected two hits for Loggers. Loggers turned two double plays in the game.

SWIC tallied 10 hits in the game. Zychowski and Korbin Pettigrew were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for SWIC. Zychowski provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led SWIC  with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. SWIC ran wild on the base paths, piling up three stolen bases for the game. SWIC turned one double play in the game.

Game 2 - Loggers Falls To SWIC

Loggers could not keep pace with SWIC 5-3 on Tuesday at Sauget Illinois . SWIC got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Zach Zychowski doubled down the right field line, and Colin Ryder singled to center field, each scoring one run. Braylan Smith homered to right field, which helped the Loggers tie the game at two in the top of the second. The Loggers took the lead in the top of the fifth. Nolan Turner singled, scoring one run, to give Loggers the advantage, 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, SWIC went back into the lead after Jackson Stanek grounded out, Ryder singled to the left side of the infield, and SWIC scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.

Tyler Weber earned the win for SWIC. The reliever gave up one hit and one run (zero earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Will Leman took the loss for the Loggers. The reliever went two-thirds of an inning, surrendering three runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out none and walking two. Bryce Buhs started on the bump for the Loggers. The pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Andrew Swanda opened the game for SWIC. The righty gave up two hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one.

Ethan Hurst, Smith, Turner, and Colbie Glenn each collected one hit for the Loggers. Smith went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. The Loggers stole three bases in the game. The Loggers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Smith had the most chances in the field with nine.

Zychowski and Ryder each collected two hits for SWIC. Zychowski, Stanek, and Ryder each drove in one run for SWIC. SWIC were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Austin Bertsch  made the most plays with five.

Next up for the Loggers is a game against Waubonsee CC Chiefs on Saturday.
