Men's Basketball Misses the Mark at Moraine

Moraine Valley - 61
Lincoln Land - 54

The Logger men's basketball team ended the first semester stumbling into break dropping a Saturday afternoon rematch with Moraine Valley, 61-54.

Lincoln Land kicked off their season by defeating the Cyclones of Moraine Valley, 66-64. In the previous match up, the Loggers came from behind to grab the victory. This Saturday afternoon, LLCC fell victim to a comeback. Lincoln Land scored the first three buckets of the game and looked like they may not turn back. The Loggers defense pushed the tempo as they held Moraine to just 21 points in the first half and forced 11 Cyclone turnovers. Moraine looked to make a closed game but fought back to tie the game at 20. The Loggers finished the half on an 11-1 run. Although, the Loggers had multiple opportunities to create a lasting advantage, their offense was not as effective as their defense and they were only able to build a 10 point advantage during the first half.

Neither team made much of an impression on the score as the game remained around 10 points for much of the start of the second half. Even though Lincoln Land seemed to be in control, they still missed opportunities to gain more than a 10 point advantage. With around 12:00 to go LLCC got two golden opportunities to put the game away and failed to do so. Up seven points, the Loggers had a chance with back to back fast break advantages off turnovers and couldn't convert on either possession. Moraine did not give Lincoln Land another chance. With the score at 46-39, Moraine survived those two Logger opportunities and went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 46. Over the last 11:00 of the game, the Loggers were only able to muster up 8 more points. Moraine took their first lead of the afternoon at 50-48 with 5:30 to go. The Loggers got back out in front 52-51 with 4:31 remaining and only were able earn one more basket. Lincoln Land trailing 57-54 with :20 remaining got an open look at a three that sailed wide. The Cyclones knocked on their last four free throws to end the game with a final score of 61-54.

Lincoln Land had two Loggers tie with a team high 14 points, Michael Ousley and Camren Kincaid. Kincaid ended with a double-double also pulling down 11 rebounds. Stephan Douglas earned double digit points with 11.

Lincoln Land closes the semester with a 5-7 record. They will have just short of a month off before they kick off second semester on January 14.
