Men's Basketball Falls to Rend Lake On The Road

The Lincoln Land Loggers traveled to Ina, Illinois to battle the Warriors of Rend Lake. The Loggers fell short to the Warriors, 79-69. 

Lincoln Land fell behind on the first possession during the match up, ultimately never holding a lead. After the game being tied, 7-7, Rend Lake established a five point advantage that turned into double digits, midway through the first half. The Warriors earned a lead, with as many as 19 points, in that first half. Lincoln Land cut Rend Lakes lead down to 11, before giving up two late Warrior buckets, before entering the halftime break, Loggers trailed 41-26. 

The Loggers continued to trail, during the start of the second half. The Loggers were down 20 points bringing the score to 41-61, before the team rallied a major comeback. The Loggers rattled off an 8-0 run followed by another run of 11-1. This impressive fight brought the Loggers within 10 points of the Warriors, with 8 minuets of play remaining. The Loggers cut the deficit to single digits before the Warriors took charge over the next series of possessions. The Loggers fell back once again, getting down by 15 points.

Although, the Loggers never got closer than 6 points to the Warriors, the Loggers refused to quit and displayed tremendous fight during the competition. Rend Lake knocked down enough free throws at the end of the game to keep the Loggers at bay.

Lincoln Land was short handed on the afternoon, dressing only 7 players. Despite their set back, four Loggers finished the game in double digit points. Freshman Stephan Douglas ended the contest as the leading scorer, with 21 points while pulling in 7 rebounds. Dane Foster earned 18 points and added 8 rebounds. Douglas and Foster were the offensive spark the Loggers needed to stay in the game, Douglas notching 15 points and Foster adding 14 points, in the second half alone. Axel Laby contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds while Cameron Kincaid provided 12 points and 7 rebounds. 

The Loggers fall to a 2-3 record, heading into their next match up against Illinois College, Monday November 21st at 7:30 pm in Jacksonville, Illinois.
