Hoopsters move to 4-0 with lopsided victory over IVCC

The #11 ranked Loggers of Lincoln Land faced off against the Eagles of Illinois Valley and ran away with an 84-40 victory.  The Loggers started off the game slow and uninspired and found themselves down 9-6 in the early going. Lincoln Land managed to rally late in the first period and held a slim 13-9 lead.  "I wasn't super thrilled with our effort to start the game" commented Logger head coach Chad Jones.  Lincoln Land came out of the first period break and caught fire offensively. The Loggers would score 27 points in the second quarter making four three-point baskets in the period. Illinois Valley wouldn't go away as their inside presence was giving the Loggers problems on the defensive end.  "They have a very skilled 6'2 post player that was a problem for us tonight.  She had seven rebounds in the first half" said Jones.  The Loggers went into halftime with a 40-24.

The second half saw the Loggers come out with much more fire and intensity.  Lincoln Land began using pressure defense and forced 14 IVCC turnovers in the period.  Lincoln Land started the second half on a 20-2 run that essentially ended the game.  "We talked at halftime about simply playing hard and for the person next to you" stated Jones.  The Loggers won the third  quarter 25-6 with all but four points coming from non-starters.   The final quarter saw the Loggers cool from the field and begin working the clock to shorten the game.  Lincoln Land still managed to score 19 points in the period and cruised to the final margin of 84-40.

The Loggers were lead in scoring by a trio of freshmen all with 12 points apiece.  Taylor Nowaskie, Avrie Schmidt, and Sophie Bedel all provided offensive power that jump started the Loggers.  "It was good to see that group get rolling tonight.  Hopefully that will give them some confidence moving forward" Said Jones.  The Loggers were lead in rebounding by Cassidy Kretschmer with 10.  The Loggers assisted on 24 field goals on the night.  Madyson Hill lead the Loggers with five assists.  Lincoln Land forced IVCC into 37 turnovers.

Lincoln Land makes the long trip north on Saturday to play NJCAA Division 1 Triton College at 1pm.  The Loggers improve to 4-0 on the season.
