The Lincoln Land men's basketball team took a long trip Monday evening to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to take on Bryant and Stratton College. Although the Loggers put in one of their best efforts of the year they fell 89-83.
Bad early starts have doomed the Loggers this season and they were able to break that mold tonight. In the opening 5:00 of the game LLCC was able to stay within a couple buckets of the Bobcats of Bryant and Stratton. That was when the bad stretch hit Lincoln Land as they found themselves down as many as 16 in the first half. However, a foul by Bryant and Stratton right before the halftime horn gave sophomore Jordan Brooks three free throws, which he converted and got LLCC back within a few points. The halftime break saw the Loggers head in trailing 49-45.
The Loggers were able to start the second half with a fire and raced out and were able to take their first lead of the game at 52-50, with just over 18:00 left in the game. The two teams played tight basketball as they remained within one bucket until the two were tied at 68 with a little over 10:00 to go in the game. Again the Loggers ran into a cold stretch and Bryant and Stratton went on a 10-0 run. Although plenty of time remained in the game LLCC did not have enough to make it all the way back to tie the game. The closest the Loggers got was down 5 with under 1:00 to play. LLCC had the ball, but a turnover and a quick foul put the game out of reach for good. Eventually the Loggers fell 89-83.
Five Loggers found double digits led by a team high 26 by freshmen Keon Jones. The Decatur native also pulled down a team and game high 7 rebounds and fished out 6 assists on the day. To finish packing the stat sheet Jones also added 2 steals and blocks a piece. Sophomore Jordan Brooks used 6-7 free throw shooting to add 17. Sophomore Benji Eaker (15), freshmen Jered Cain (12), and freshmen Darius Brewington (11) also got to the double digits mark.
Lincoln Land falls to 2-14 on the season. They will have a week to refocus until they take on Millikin JV on Monday January 13th.
