LLCC defeats Lewis and Clark Community College 25-19, 25-14, 27-29, 19-25, 15-13
LLCC squeaked by upstart Lewis and Clark in 5 sets Wednesday at Cass Gym. Like other matches this year, LLCC started strong, dominating the first two sets and taking a 17-10 lead in the third set before several errors and strong Trailblazer defense brought a tie at 21 and an eventual Lewis and Clark victory 29-27. "I could have called timeout," Dietz said afterwards. "We weren't playing well and went into cruise control, but I figured tonight was a night where we were going to grit things out on our own regardless of consequences."
The fourth set then saw Lewis and Clark dominate, winning 25-15. In the deciding set, Lincoln Lad built a lead to see the score get tied at six before a Kennedy Bauer ace pushed it to 9-6. Defensive hustle pushed the set to 13-8 for the Loggers before a five point run forced an LLCC timeout before the Loggers won.
"There were several things working against us tonight, but we ground through. That's important. I think we underestimated our opponent—again. When you do that, you set yourself up for an upset and we barely survived that tonight."
