Owens defeats LLCC 20-25, 16-25, 21-25
GAME ONE:
LLCC won its first match against Vincennes in a five-set contest that went extra-time in the 5th. LLCC took the first two sets easily behind the serving of Molly Ashbaugh in the first set and a combination of Annika Black kills and Vincennes errors in the second. LLCC took a lead in the third set, but each time proceeded to make hitting or ball-handling errors until losing the set 25-23 after two more handling errors (the 8 BHE for the Loggers is the highest team total since 2014). The fourth set saw three more BHE giving Vincennes a lead that the Loggers could not completely close before VU hit 25. In the fifth set, LLCC came out fast behind a kill by Annika Black and a long serving run by Taylor Thomas to build an 803 lead before Vincennes' hitters found a weak spot and combined with three hitting errors scored eight consecutive points to seize an 11-8 lead. LLCC was able to grind to a tie at 13 on hitting errors by the opposition, finally winning 17-15 on another opponent's miscue. "We got lucky," Coach Dietz said. "We survived the ball-handling errors and nearly 30 unforced hitting errors. We did have good serve-receive passing and Annika Black was unstoppable when we could get her the ball."

GAME TWO:
In the concluding match, LLCC faced defending D3 national champions Owens Community College The first set saw the teams swap points to 11-11 before LLCC built a 16-12 lead on a thundering kill by Kennedy Bauer on an overpass before the Loggers hit three consecutive long which let the Express off the floor, catching LLCCÂ
at 19-19 and permitting three more unforced errors before putting down two crushing hits for a 25-20 win. The second set saw Owens pick up two quick kills followed by another run of Logger errors to open a 12-4 lead. LLCC stabilized the situation, but could not close the gap and sided out the rest of the way losing 25-16. The third set saw LLCC get out quickly 5-0 and 8-5, before two Express aces, a LLCC net violation, and a ball-handling error helped Owens score 6 straight points. LLCC didn't give up, fighting to a 17-17 tie before two more errors and an Owens ace broke open the game, giving the Express a 25-21 third set victory.  Afterwards, Coach Dietz was glum, "Errors. Too many unforced. In volleyball, a good opponent will force you in to a lot anyways, so you can't spot them an extra five or six points each set. Russ Rose [Penn State's coach] says you can make 6-7 errors each set and against Owens we had a dozen. When we do stuff right, we're really good, but we have to put it all together for more than five or six points at a time."
