The Lincoln Land men's basketball team held on to the lead and came away with their first victory of the year, 71-65, over Hannibal La-Grange JV.
After falling behind 11-5 early in the game, the Loggers rallied and took their first lead of the game 7:00 in at 13-11 and never gave that lead up. Their highest lead in the first half was 12, which they held going into halftime, 36-24.
The LLCC advantage hovered around 10 for most of the second half until a 10-3 run over a 3:00 period pushed the lead out to a game high of 17 with just under 4:00 to play. However, the game was not over then as Hannibal La-Grange went on a 13-2 run to cut the game to 69-63 with :46 remaining in the game. Two Jake Pennell free throws immediately got the game to 71-63, where it remained for the last :30 of the game.
All but one Logger who played, scored. Sophomore Jake Pennell led the Logger scorers with 21, his second highest output of the year. Freshman Benji Eaker got 16, sophomore CJ May put in 12, and sophomore Logan Clayton ended with 10 points.
Hannibal La-Grange actually had most of the stats going in their favor, shooting percentage, rebounding, however, three crucial stats helped the Loggers. LLCC got 20 more free throw attempts, put in 4 more three pointers, and committed 9 less turnovers.
Lincoln Land got their first win of the year, Head Coach Chuck Shanklin got his first victory of his career, and now sit at 1-14 on the season. They will play MacMurray JV in Jacksonville on Thursday night.
