#17 LLCC defeats Lincoln Trail 25-14, 25-14, 25-18

 
#17 LLCC took on the Statesmen of Lincoln Trail Tuesday in the first match of the day, winning in straight sets.  The Loggers started the first set strong behind aggressive serves from freshman Kiley Brunstein and when she came to the front, multiple Brunstein kills to open a 12-4 lead.  After trading points, libero Bobana Marusic scored two aces during a string of seven points to open the lead to 24-13 before Molly Tauke crushed a ball down in the middle of the floor for set point.
 
In the second set, the two teams alternated points until Maree Taig tooled the block for a kill which led to a run, opening the game to 13-6.  This opened to a gap of ten behind kills from sophomores Erika Miller and Lainey Jackson before Olivia Dour ended the set with a slide for the 25-14 final.
 
In the final set, Dour's aggressive serving led to three big Brunstein swings and a quick five point lead.  LLCC couldn't crack it open wider as the two teams traded errors before finally Marusic picked up an ace and Tauke a kill for the match's final points.

"We got good hitting from our outside hitters and our serving was aggressive.  We didn't execute certain adjustments we are trying to make very well, but it's really the first chance we've had to run them with them being part of our strategy.  We'll keep working on them though," Coach Dietz said after the match.
