Volleyball sweep three on Saturday

LLCC defeats St. Louis CC: 25-12, 25-12, 25-13
LLCC defeats Kankakee: 25-18, 25-15, 25-16
LLCC defeats Lewis&Clark: 25-18, 25-20, 25-20

LLCC swept three matches to conclude its Labor Day Invitational.
In the morning's first match, LLCC took on the St. Louis CC Archers.  The Loggers never trailed in the match, taking a lead early in the first behind hitting by Ashley Melton and two resounding kills by Kiley Brunstein to build a wide lead.  The second featured LLCC middles once again as Maree Taig picked up two key kills and helped Ashley Melton on a block to lead LLCC to a 25-12 win.  The third set saw the Loggers open it up early in a team effort while libero Bobana Marusic served and cruised from there.

LLCC followed up against a scrappy Kankakee squad that played LLCC hard but only after LLCC opened a five point lead in each set.  LLCC was led by Erika Miller's hitting, though the key with the match was not a good one.  Freshman Jakya Pealer was hit by a ball and was unable to return for the rest of the day which had an effect as she tallied 6 digs and 4 assists in her game-and-a-half before the injury.

In the day's final match, the Loggers faced Lewis&Clark in a non-region match.  The two teams alternated points in the first set before hitting by Kiley Brunstein and Ashley Melton provide the difference.  Game two was the same, except it was Molly Tauke and Melton with the key hits.   In the final set, LLCC fought through a rash of unforced errors to take a lead, winning it through a balanced attack led by Lainey Jackson.

"It was good to get the record over .500," Coach Dietz said.  "But, really, I was bummed about Jakya—hopefully we hear more soon on her status.  The winning is nice, but we're in the middle of a process.  We are doing more things better than a week ago, but we aren't where we want to be yet.  I hope the girls understand that and don't try and rest on their laurels."

LLCC is back in action Wednesday at home against Parkland College.
