Baseball splits again with ICC

Greer came through wth 2 RBI go ahead hit in game 2
The second day of the series saw the Loggers again dropping game one and taking game two against the Cougars of Illinois Central College. The first game was a 7-0 loss for the Loggers, who were nearly no-hit by the Cougars. Game two was a 5-4 comeback win to get the Loggers a split in the series.

Ethan Klay (1-4) took the loss in game one for the Loggers. Klay pitched 5 innings and gave up 3 runs before turning the game over to relievers Ben Johnson and Sam Baker. Another silent game from the Logger offense had the opposing pitcher, Adam Christianson, cruising along and getting the win in a complete game, one hit performance. The only hit that the Loggers were able to produce was a single off the bat of Brendan Hostettler. After the Loggers failed to get out of a late jam, the Cougars stacked on more runs for the 7-0 win.

Austin Troemper (2-1) got the win in game two. The freshman went 5 innings and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits. Unlike in game one, the Logger offense was able to pick Troemper up each inning by answering any runs scored by ICC throughout the game. A big hit by Bryce Torricelli, who finished the game 2-2 with a 2B, with a runner on set up the late go ahead situation for the Loggers. Cole Greer was able to come through and knock in Clay Bachman and Torricelli to give the Loggers the lead for good in the top of the 6th. John Plattner and Noah Powless also chipped in a hit and an RBI apiece in the 5-4 victory.

"A split is better than losing the series," Coach Ron Riggle said of the Loggers' split. "But for us to get where we want to go, we have to start having 3 win, 4 win weekends."

After another split day, Lincoln Land sits at 12-19 (5-11 MWAC) on the season. They take on Quincy University on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Claude Kracik Field in Springfield.
