Loggers Lose Streak, Split With Vincennes

The Loggers took on the Trailblazers of Vincennes College in games two and three of their weekend series on Saturday. Lincoln Land took game one rather handily, earning a 7-0 win. Ethan Klay (2-4) was lights out for the Loggers, going 6 innings and striking out 9. Klay gave up just 2 hits in the win. He was backed up early by his offense, scoring all 7 of their runs in the first 2 innings. Andy Lopez led the charge once again for the Logger offense, contributing 2 hits and 3 RBI. Noah Powless and Dalton Fletcher also tallied multiple hits and tacked on an RBI apiece.

Jay Burton (2-1) was tagged with the loss in game two after he came in relief for the Loggers in extra innings. The crafty lefty induced soft contact up and down the Blazer lineup, but unfortunately the Blazers were able to find holes in the defense and push across 3 runs off of Burton in the 9th. Earlier in the game, Lincoln Land came back from a small deficit to tie the game after 5 innings. Noah Powless knocked in 2 RBI in the game for the Loggers, the biggest coming in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 4. The Loggers were held scoreless from then on, dropping game two 7-4 in 9 innings, ending their 9 game winning streak.

The loss in game two brings the Loggers back down to .500 at 20-20 (9-11 MWAC) this season. The Loggers get back on the field this Thursday against the MacMurray Highlanders at Claude Kracik Field in Springfield. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
