Offense was again a problem for the Loggers, as they lost games 3 and 4 of their series with Heartland, 12-2 and 3-0. On the day, the Logger offense only produced 4 hits. The pitching wasn't much better for the Loggers, as they surrendered 12 earned out of the 15 given up.
In game one, Ethan Klay (1-2) took the loss for the Loggers. He went 2 1/3 innings and gave up 9 runs. Although the scoreboard was lit up early on for the Hawks, only 3 of their 9 were earned off of Klay. A costly error extended what would have been a scoreless first inning for the Loggers. However, due to the throwing error, the Hawks were able to put up 4 runs in the opening frame. They wouldn't slow down much, scoring in every inning off of all 3 Logger pitchers in the game. Ben Johnson and Sam Baker relieved Klay, and gave up the final 3 runs Heartland would need for the mercy rule, winning the game 12-2.
Game two saw Rick Dour (0-3) once again coming up short in another gutsy performance. The sophomore went 6 innings and gave up just 3 earned runs on 4 hits. All 3 runs for Heartland came in the bottom of the 6th inning on a bases loaded double that would be the only runs scored all game. The only highlight of the game offensively for the Loggers was a double off the left field wall in the 4th inning by Chase Kuntzman. The double put Kuntzman at 1-2 in the game.
Lincoln Land drops to 8-14 (1-7 MWAC) on the season. They play Lewis & Clark this weekend to start another 4 game set.
