In the first day of the series, the Loggers split with the Hawks of Heartland Community College. The first game was a pitchers duel that the Loggers happened to get the short end of the stick on. Devin Smith (2-2) gave up just one earned run over 8 innings. He struck out 7 Heartland hitters and surrendered just 4 hits. This is Smith's second consecutive loss by 1 run. Chase Kuntzman, Talon File, and Rick Dour were the only Loggers to tally hits on the day. The lack of offense led to the Loggers dropping game one, 3-0.
Game two was a different story for the Logger offense, as they chalked up 7 runs in the first 3 innings. Dalton Fletcher and Noah Powless both chipped in 2 hits in game two, and the pair also contributed 2 RBI apiece. One of Fletcher's hits highlighted the 2nd inning of scoring for the Loggers, as he smashed a double off the left field wall, scoring 2 and giving the Loggers a 5 run lead. Austin Chapman (2-2) got the win for the Loggers, going 5 innings and striking out 6. He gave up 3 earned runs on 3 hits. Chapman was relieved by Dominic Erlinger, Shayne McNally, and Cade Sestak. McNally nearly coughed up a 3 run lead in the top of the 7th inning. Walks and several wild pitches gave Heartland 2 easy runs before Cade Sestak was put in for McNally to slam the door on the Hawks and give the Loggers a 7-6 win.
Lincoln Land improves to 8-13 (1-5 MWAC) with the win in game two. They continue their series with Heartland this Sunday with a double header at Heartland.
