Softball start conference play with two victories

The Loggers defeated John Wood 14-6 and 9-1 in conference opener at LLCC. 

Madie Sims led the Loggers offensively in game one, going 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs.   Katie McLean went 3-for-3 and scored three times to add to the Logger offensive punch.  Kari Sarhage was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs including a walk off two run homer in the bottom of the 5th inning (8 run rule).  Addison Bryant was also 2-for-3.   The Loggers collected 15 hits in game one and 5 stolen bases in the win.
Sophomore Madison Routh (1-2) was the winning pitcher.  Routh scattered 9 hits and allowed 6 runs in 5 innings. She walked one batter with two strike outs.
"We hit the ball very well today," stated Logger Coach John Marsaglia.  Twenty-seven hits in a double header is big."
 
The Loggers scored first in game two by producing 3 runs on 4 hits.  Kari Sarhage hit her first triple of the year driving in both Kaley Maurer and Katelyn Presley who both reach on hits.  Sarhage scored on an RBI hit by Ashton Dyche.  John Wood scored only one run off of sophomore pitcher Brittany Roady (1-3).  Roady allowed 1 run on 4 hits in the 23 batters faced.  She walked 2 and struck out 5 in her first home outing.   The Loggers produced 12 hits in the shortened 8 rule game.  Katelyn Presley was 3-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs, including a walk off sac-fly in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Katie McLean, Kari Sarhage and Ashton Dyche collected two hits each in the victory.  The Loggers also had 4 stolen bases in game two.
 
Two stand out performances on the day were:
Madie Sims, 5-for-7, 5 RBIs
Kari Sarhage 4-for-7, 5 RBIs with HR, Triple and double

Tomorrow's games with Spoon River College has been moved to LLCC for a 1/3 pm start.  The Loggers improve their record to 6-10 with a 4 game win streak.
