#16 LLCC defeats Frontier 25-17, 25-20, 25-19
LLCC faced the Frontier Bobcats in the opening match of the Logger Invitational, sweeping a 3-set contest. In the first set, the Loggers were paced by two serving runs by Lainey Jackson and Jakya Pealer as well as excellent passing from freshman Taylor Thomas, opening the winning 25-17 score after being tied at 11.
In the second set, the Loggers took an early lead behind a Pealer ace and a Maree Taig solo block. Frontier was unable to close within 4 points at any point as Lainey Jackson kept the opposing defense off-balance with her set selections.
The deciding set saw a sluggish LLCC squad as the Loggers had a run of unforced errors that brought Frontier within two before a net serve gave the ball back. Down the stretch, Erika Miller proved key with two kills and a block teaming with Maree Taig, following it with a match-winning kill.
"We were sluggish tonight," Coach Dietz said afterwards. "But it's hard when you can't get in a rhythm because of injuries. Kylie [Brunstein] has been out all week and she's been on fire as a hitter, Lainey tweaked a knee, and we had a couple people miss due to the flu." Dietz continued, "We finished Wednesday with five healthy people and Bob [Marusic] working on setting in case Jakya [Pealer] and Lainey weren't ready to go. I've got eligibliity still though, so we would've been fine," finishing with a laugh.
The Logger record now sits at 13-8.
They continue play Satruday at LLCC Invitational vs. Rend Lake, Sauk Valley, and John A. Logan
