LLCC defeats Waubonsee 25-20, 25-17, 25-12
LLCC finished its tournament Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of Waubonsee CC. The Loggers were in control for most of the first set, building a lead behind their blocking, including two by freshman Kiley Brunstein. The Chiefs closed it to 21-19 on 3 consecutive aces which forced an LLCC timeout, but the Loggers rallied, winning 25-20 on a Taig-Tauke block.
The second set saw the Loggers mis-hit or be aced on five consecutive balls, falling behind 6-2 before a Taig-Brunstein block sparked what turned in to a 19-4 run, giving the Loggers a 21-10 lead that became a 25-17 win after a Kiley Brunstein short tip.
The final set went back and forth to 5 before LLCC broke away behind solid defense from Bobana Marusic which led to three Brunstein kills. LLCC pulled away further on a Pealer ace, sealing the deal with a Taylor Thomas ace at match point.Â
After the match, Coach Dietz said, "We played hard from start to finish. Other than the run of errors in the second set, we had a good match blocking and that set up our offense so that everyone was hitting well. Now we just need to rest and get over the injury bug!"
