John Wood pulls away in second half in men’s basketball

Owens had a team high 20
Lincoln Land Community College - 53
John Wood Community College - 76

The Logger men's basketball team went on the road for the first time in MWAC play and fell 76-53 to the Blazers of John Wood.

Lincoln Land started the game on a strong foot as they held a lead for majority of the first half and led by a high of 5 early in the game. This broke recent trends, as the Loggers have come out flat in most recent game. Early on the Loggers knocked in a few threes and freshman DJ Doolin was controlling the boards with 7 first half rebounds, 3 of which were offensive. Lincoln Land let John Wood go on a short run to end the half to put LLCC down by 3 going in to half, 35-32.

The bad start showed up for the Loggers, only tonight it was to start the second half. The Blazers in a matter of 4:00 had pushed that one possession advantage out to 15. Lincoln Land had controlled the ball fairly well in the first half, but turnovers were a big part of what allowed John Wood to go on a run. Lincoln Land struggled to shoot all evening, but the second half was the worst of it. The Loggers went 8/35 from the field (23%), 4/15 from three (27%), and 2/7 from the free throw line (29%). Couple the poor shooting with a majority of their turnovers and it was no surprise the Loggers were able to only score 22 second half points and find themselves down by as many as 25.

"I felt like we made some mistakes in the first half, but played hard and put ourselves in a position to compete. The second half we got down a bit and our energy level fell, and we gave up on doing what we were doing well in the first half. We have to get mentally tougher if we are going to get back on track down the stretch." Head Coach Chad Jones explained after the loss.

Sophomore D'Aaron Owens had a team high 20 to lead the Loggers. Sophomore Jerrid Cosby was the only other Logger in double digits with 12.

Lincoln Land is now 10-9 and 0-2 in conference. They travel to Danville Saturday afternoon to take on the Jaguars of Danville Area Community College.
