#7 LLCC wins 25-13, 25-17, 25-23 over Lewis and Clark
LLCC swept visiting Lewis & Clark 3-0 at Cass Gym Wednesday evening. The Loggers started fast behind balanced hitting and two key blocks from sophomores Brook Soebbing and Addie Patton en route to building a 13-5 lead. The Loggers kept the lead until set's end, punctuated by Patton crushing an overpass for set point. The second set started with another LLCC run, building a 6-1 lead. Lewis & Clark tied it at fourteen after four unforced Logger errors before LLCC righted the ship behind two Bailey Rexroad kills and defensive hustle from Bobana Marusic, leading to an eventual 25-17 win. The third set also saw the Loggers build a big lead. "Unfortunately, we found our cruise control halfway through and stopped doing everything that had given us the win the first two sets. We didn't communicate on defense, let freeballs drop and stopped running a balance offense. Coach Kinney's squad is too good to not exploit that," Coach Dietz said afterward. Indeed, Lewis & Clark rallied back to take a 23-22 lead before the Loggers rattled off three points for their fourth consecutive victory, their last loss being to #17 D-1 Mineral Area College.
The Loggers, now 7-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference play, are back in action tomorrow evening at 6pm at Rend Lake College in their second Region XXIV matchup.
