LLCC defeats Southeastern CC 25-17, 25-22, 25-19
LLCC faced off with Southeastern Community College from Burlington, Iowa to start the Illinois Central Invitational, winning the match in three competitive sets as SCC refused to go down without a fight. In the first set, LLCC fell behind early, 5-1, behind four hitting errors before catching up and taking the lead 9-8 behind the serving of Kaylee Beekman. Points were exchanged again until Beekman went back to serve again whereupon she scored an ace and several more points, giving LLCC a 23-17 advantage before Bobana Marusic put the set away with an ace. In the second set, LLCC dominated behind the blocking of Addie Patton who picked up four of her match-high six blocks. In the third set, the Loggers were able to win behind solid defense, helped by multiple block-touches on SCC swings by freshmen Kourtney Bilyeu and Maree Taig. "We keep falling in holes to start. It's great to recover, but it's a game of Russian Roulette against teams. Sooner or later, you'll get burned. Take those early mistakes away and we played a scrappy match," Coach Dietz said afterwards on his way to switch gyms before LLCC's second contest.
