Ron Riggle 500th Win
There was a lot riding on the Logger baseball games Friday as the team traveled to Quincy, Illinois to take on John Wood Community College in a double header, the first games of their annual four game conference set. The Loggers, still looking to nail down their regional seed and secure a first round bye, began the day with a magic number of three, (any combination of LLCC wins and Danville CC losses). Lincoln Land's head baseball coach Ron Riggle also entered the day just two wins shy of reaching the five hundred club in career wins.
The Loggers didn't disappoint, doing all they could to control their own destiny. Lincoln Land's pitching staff threw a combined fifteen shutout innings, handing Coach Riggle 9-0 and 8-0 victories to give him five hundred career wins. Tristan Weaver (9-1) and Devin Smith (9-0) picked up their ninth and final regular season wins of the season. Weaver struck out nine in his seven innings of work and Smith scattered three hits in his scoreless five frames.
The Logger offense did their part as well to secure th two wins. Nick Maton, Dalton Fletcher, Michael Ryan and Johnny Steinwart (2 for 4) doubled in game one and Joanathan Walder (2 for 3, 5rbis) belted a grand slam, his sixth home run this season.
Game two was highlighted by an RBI triple from Aaron Steinhoff, a run scoring double from Peyton Minder, and a three run homerun off the bat of designated hitter Noah Powless.
With Lincoln Land's two wins and Danville CC loss to Parkland earlier in the day, the Loggers have cliniched the two seed in the Region XXIV tournament and will be awarded with a first round bye.
Lincoln Land is now 36-8 and will finish the regular season at home tomorrow as they host John Wood in a double header scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
