Parkland Sweeps LLCC at Home
Â
A pair of NJCCA top ranked teams squared off on Saturday afternoon at Claude Kracik field as the 8th ranked Lincoln Land  Loggers (16-5) hosted the 7th ranked Cobras from Parkland (20-4).  The highly anticipated four game series did not start well for LLCC as they lost game one 10-2, and dropped the second 8-5 on some late innings Parkland heroics.
Â
With the Loggers leading 5-4 in the top of the seventh in game two, Cobra lead-off man Corey Wright belted a two out grand slam to center field off Logger closer Nick Maton (2-1) to give Parkland the 8-5 lead.  The Loggers managed only three hits in the game, including a double from Xavier Collier, and struck out a season high twelve times.
Â
Logger Lefty Tristan Weaver (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season in game one.  Weaver surrendered six runs, only four earned, on eight hits, two walks, and had eight strikeouts.  Winning pitcher Brady Schanuel (4-0) pitched six strong innings for the Cobras, allowing two runs on five hits, three walks, and he fanned seven.  Offensively for the Loggers, Nick Maton and Xavier Collier had two hits apiece and Noah Powless had the only run batted in.
Â
"Obviously not the result we were looking for today, " coach Riggle said to his players after the game. "Parkland is a good team, and so are we, we just didn't play well enough today to win. Â Good news is, we get another crack at them tomorrow."
Â
Lincoln land will travel to Champaign, Illinois tomorrow to finish the series with Parkland. Â The double header is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm.
