Devin Smith, 2-0
Lincoln Land (5-1) traveled to New Port Richey, Florida on Monday for their annual match up against the Conquistadors from Pasco Hernando State College (9-13). The Loggers prevailed in their second nail biter victory in as many days, winning 10-8 in the nine inning contest.
Â
With the Loggers leading 10-4 in the bottom on the ninth, Pasco sent all nine hitters to the plate, scoring four runs on four hits and two walks. Loggers still leading 10-8, Conquistador first baseman Alex Reynolds represented the winning run at the plate with runners on second and third. LLCC closer Nick Maton ended the threat by getting Reynolds to pop up to short to secure the Logger win.
Â
Lincoln Land Freshman Devin Smith (2-0) picked up his second win of the season. Smith battled through five innings of work, allowing only one run on three hits, three walks, and four strike outs. Freshman Rick Dour, who started the game as the Logger's designated hitter, pitched in relief of Smith, hurling three innings and allowing three runs.
Â
Dour (2 for 4) and Maton (2 for 6) led the ten hit offensive charge for the Loggers, each belting their first homerun of the year, Maton's a solo shot in the fifth inning and Dour's a two run blast in the eighth. Dour finished with four runs batted in on the day and Johnny Walder (2 for 4) also added two hits with an RBI.Â
