Loggers Fall to John Wood, 70-44

LLCC – 44
John Wood Community College - 70

The Loggers of Lincoln Land fell for the second time in a row and drop to 0-2 in the Mid-West Athletic Conference after losing to the Blazers of John Wood Community College 70-44.

In games that Lincoln Land has lost this year they have had slow starts and tonight fit that mold. John Wood raced out to an early 20-10 lead as the Loggers struggled to score the ball and committed a few foolish turnovers. The closest Lincoln Land was able to cut the deficit was in the first half when they got back within 4 at 26-22. However, over the last 4:00 of the half John Wood went on a 14-5 run. At half Lincoln Land found themselves down 40-27.

The second half Lincoln Land struggled again with early turnovers and John Wood capitalized. Lincoln Land went cold and scored only 4 points in the first 8:00 of the half. The Loggers were able to get defensive stops on 11 straight possessions, but failed to turn them in to points as they missed open shots and struggled to keep possession of the ball yet again. Lincoln Land never got closer than 15 and found themselves on the short end of the game, 70-44.

"In both of conference games we have let the other team push us around and take away what we want to do. First thing is we have to get tougher. The second thing is for the second game in a row we committed some turnovers that a college basketball team should not be making. We can't stay close in games in this conference with 20+ turnovers every game," stated a frustrated Chad Jones following the game.

Lincoln Land did not shoot the ball well, committed 4 more turnovers than John Wood, and were out rebounded 38 to 22. Scoring was not easy for the Loggers who shot only 33% from the field on the night. Lincoln Land was led in scoring by Alex Portwood who ended as the only Logger in double digits with 11.

Lincoln Land will try to get a win this Saturday afternoon, again at home, against MWAC foe Danville Community College.

Lincoln Land is now 13-6 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.
