#5 LLCC defeats #9 Illinois Central 26-24, 25-18, 25-23
The Loggers volleyball team has qualified for the National Tournament for the third year in a row after defeating Illinois Central College 3-0.
The Loggers found themselves in a tough matchup with #9 Illinois Central College Cougars who pushed LLCC to the final point on the first game. Lincoln Land was able to control most of the second game, and then wrapped up the victory in a close third game. Keys for the Loggers tonight were the hitting of Bailey Rexroad who ended with a team high 14 kills. Another key was that sophomore Kiersten Anderson added yet another triple-double to her school record for a career. Arguably the most important stat of the night proved to be that LLCC was not aced all evening.
Coach Jim Dietz stated after the game, "We had a couple of incidents this week that wound up with us having injured players. One was back for today, but one wasn't. We really only had a single practice to work through things. It's why we've been going all Joe Maddon all year with lineups and it paid off today. We got great hitting from Bailey Rexroad hitting out of position, Brook was solid start to finish on the right side and it opened up the court for us hitting and serving, with the icing on the cake being we weren't aced a single time during the match. It's a great feeling to know the season will be going on two more weeks!"
Lincoln Land is now 34-6 on the season and will wait to see their seed and matchups for National Tournament which will take place November 16-18 in Charleston, West Virginia.
