Loggers men's basketball begin season with a victory

The Lincoln Land men's basketball team began their season with a 71-58 victory over the Falcons of Truman College.

The Lincoln Land Loggers men's basketball team travelled to Chicago to take on host Truman College in the Harry S. Truman Classic. The Loggers were able to get the first 7 points of the game and the closest the score was from that point on was 7-2. Lincoln Land was kick started by sophomore point guard D'Aaron Owens who was involved with nearly every early play for the Loggers as he had assists on three of the first four scores, and a missed layup led to a DJ Doolin put back on the fourth.

Lincoln Land built up a double digit lead at 21-11 halfway through the first half and then built on that lead closing on a 21-9 run to push their halftime advantage to 42-20. Lincoln Land built that lead up to a game high of 33 at one point in the second half on their way to victory. Truman did make a few three point field goals down the stretch to cut into their deficit, but Lincoln Land's victory was never really threatened.

"It was nice to finally get out and compete against somebody besides ourselves. We struggled with the speed of the game at a few times tonight and that is just a case of first game growing pains. We had some struggles with turnovers in the first half, but we were able to clean some of those issues up in the second half so I am pretty pleased. All in all, a win is a win, and tonight also gave us some things to work on." commented Head Coach Chad Jones following the game.

Lincoln Land had two sophomores in double digits led by a game high from Jerrid Cosby who had 18 and D'Aaron Owens added 16 of his own. Other team statistical leads were sophomore Jacob Rueter had 6 assists and freshman Marcus Williams pulled down 6 rebounds.

Lincoln Land continues play in the Harry S. Truman Classic tomorrow at 1 PM against Daley College.
