LLCC defeats 5-seed Sauk Valley 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 27-25
The nightcap for the tournament was a late-night affair following the five-set slugfest between Pasco-Hernando and Coffeyville, featuring the 4-seed Loggers vs. the 5-see Sauk Valley SkyHawks, a familiar opponent to Lincoln Land. Lincoln Land survived and advanced with a 3-1 win, including a comeback from being down 23-18 in the deciding set to win 27-25 behind the serving of Bobana Marusic. "It was a great win, but I was sad, too. Sauk's big hitter, Bailey O'Brien, was injured in their previous match and couldn't really jump, so she was limited. I hate that because Jay's got a great team and that injury was probably the difference between us winning in four and going to a fifth set. Sauk played their guts out, that's for sure," Dietz said after the match ended near midnight local time.
Kiersten Anderson added to her record triple-double streak while Brook Soebbing and Kourtney Bilyeu had great matches hitting to pace LLCC who is now 36-6. The Loggers will play Owens Community College at 6:30 EST Friday in the Final Four. The Loggers played Owens in a tournament earlier this year, losing 22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 23-25.
