#5 LLCC defeats SWIC 25-17, 25-20, 25-8
Â
LLCC survived a rough start to defeat the Blue Streak of Southwestern Illinois Tuesday eveningin Belleville. In the first set, the Loggers began with another streak of errors, compounded by two SWIC aces which led to a quick 8-0 deficit. After a timeout, the Loggers recovered behind blocking by Kourtney Bilyeu and three of sophomore Kiersten Anderson's four aces as the Logger caught SWIC at 14s before Addie Patton came to the front row, leading LLCC to a 25-17 win. The Loggers were in control the rest of the way. When the Blue Streak threatened late in the second set, Micaela Chrappa picked up three digs to seal the victory, 25-20. The third set was dominated from the start as Anderson continued her hot serving, helped by solid defense and communication as LLCC opened a 10-0, then a 15-1 lead before winning 25-8.
"Those first eight points, that's what sticks with me. We talked about fast starts at practice and this time we dug a deeper hole than normal. But we got an energy spark from Kourtney and as always, we never give up--always look on the bright side of life!" Coach Dietz whistled afterwards.
