Loggers Split with Quincy University JV
Â
The Lincoln Land baseball team traveled to Quincy, Illinois on Wednesday to take on the Quincy University Hawks' junior varsity program. The Loggers managed to split the double header, winning the first game 13-10 in eight innings and dropping the night cap 10-9 in the bottom of the thirteenth inning.
Â
The Logger lineup raked out 32 hits on the day, knocking out 16 in each game. Middle of the order sophomore hitters Conor White, Ben Hecht, and Jake Morsch led the way. White finished the day going a combined 6 for 11 with a triple a three runs batted in. Hecht, also 6 for 11 in the two games combined, belted his team leading 6th home run of the season in game one. He added a run scoring ground rule double in game two, and finished his day with a total of five RBIs. Morsch would end up with four hits in his nine official at bats, which included an RBI double in game two.
Â
Sophomore shortstop Tyler Ring also homered in game one, a three run shot in game one and the first of his collegiate career. Freshman Matt Sekardi, who started on the mound in game two and was the designated hitter for himself,  belted a double and a triple in his last two plate appearances in game two.
Â
The Lincoln Land pitching staff struggled to keep momentum on the Logger's side in both games. Quincy nearly matched every effort by the Loggers offense to take control of the game, answering with runs of their own in the Hawk's half of the innings. Logger hurlers gave up of 30 hits in the 21 innings of play. Freshman Chad Weller (1-1) got credited with the win in game one, and Logan Reardon earned his third save by working a clean bottom half of the eighth inning. Tyler O'shea), who actually started on the mound in game one, suffered the loss in game two, allowing 2 hits and two walks in 2/3 innings.
Â
"Extremely long day of baseball, but it was good for us to get these games played in order to prepare for this coming weekend," coach Riggle said following the games. " Would have been nice to win that second game, but the guys played hard and gave all they had, we just didn't execute enough down the stretch to win that game."
Â
The Loggers are now 20-11 and will host conference rival Parkland College in a doubleheader on Friday. Start time time is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Claude Kracik Field.
