Lincoln Land defeated the Cardinals of Mineral 7-2 today at home before game two was cancelled due to rain.
The Cardinals scored first on a solo home run by shortstop Emily Robinson to left field off of Logger starter Jordan Kraft. Morgan Heckman drove in Anna Walschleger on a sac fly to right center to tie the game 1-1 after one inning of play. Mineral Area scored their second and final run of the day on an error to take the lead in the top of the 3rd inning. LLCC once again responded to tie the score 2-2 on a sac fly by Taylen Balding. The Loggers busted loose in the 6th inning, scoring 5 runs on 6 hits.
Megan Ballegeer and Miranda Esperum were both 2-for-3 for the Loggers. Taylen Balding and Esperum each had a double in the win. Jordan Kraft was the winning pitcher. Kraft went the distance allowing only 1 earned run, giving up 6 hits with 6 strike outs and 1 walk.
Game two the Loggers were winning 7-0 in the 3rd inning when the game was called due to rain.
Lincoln Land is scheduled to play Region 24 Illinois Central College tomorrow at 3 pm.
