Loggers Split at Danville, Win Series 3-1

The Lincoln Land baseball Loggers traveled to Danville, Illinois Sunday afternoon to complete a four game conference set against the Jaguars from Danville Area Community College.  The Loggers left town with a split, winning the first game 6-0 and dropping the second game 7-2.  The Loggers won the series three games to one and are now 26-15 on the season, and 14-6 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Freshman Chris Robinson
Freshman Chris Robinson (3-3) threw a complete game shut out for the Loggers in game one, evening his win/loss record at three game each.  Robinson allowed just four hits in seven innings, walking only one batter and striking out six.  "I'm proud of the way Chris threw the ball today, he worked ahead and threw all his pitches for strikes," coach Riggle said after the game one victory.
 
The Loggers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning with four consecutive hits. Sam Anderson (1 for 2) got the rally started with a one out single and was followed up by a Tyler Borski (2 for 4) double. Logger shortstop Tyler Ring (1 for 2) singled in both base runners with his single up the middle.  Ring would then advance to third on Conor White's (2 for 4) single and scored on Ben Hecht's (2 for 2) sacrifice fly.  Lincoln Land added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning, capped off by Xavier Collier's (1 for 4) two run triple. Borski, Hecht, and Morsch all had doubles for the Loggers.
 
Lincoln Land's six game winning streak was ended with a 7-2 loss in game two.  The Logger's committed  four errors that caused five of the Jaguars seven runs to be unearned.  Sophomore lefty Konner Aherin (1-1) suffered the loss for the Loggers.  Aherin pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs, two earned, on seven hits and one walk.  The Jaguars scored three unearned runs in the third inning and scored  four runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Leo Lopez hit a two out, two run single for the Jaguars only earned runs of the game.  Mark Strebin and Austin Browning had two hits each for the Danville.
 
Lincoln Land got their only two runs of the game in the top of the third inning.  Conor White grounded out to first base with the bases loaded to score Sam Anderson and Ben Hecht followed with a ground out to shortstop to score Tyler Borski.  The Loggers had only five hits in the game and struck out eight times.  Borski was the only Logger with multiple hits, going 2 for 4. Michael Vascura got the win for Danville, extending his record to 4-2.
 
Loggers return to action next Friday at home against Vincennes University at 6pm.
