Softball Splits with John Wood 9-8 and 5-6

LLCC won game one 9-8 and lost game two 6-5 in a conference doubleheader at John Wood Community College today.  LLCC took an early lead scoring 2 in the first and 5 in the second to lead 7-2.  John Wood scored 1 run in the bottom of the third.   The Loggers answered with 2 runs in the 4th to lead 9-3.  Morgan Mansur (6-2) held Blazers scoreless in the 4th and 5th innings.   John Wood scored 2 runs in the 6th inning on a 2 run homer by Emily Kitchel.  The Loggers were unable to score in the 7th inning. John Wood scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th as Bri Graham recorded the save in relief.

LLCC collected 13 hits in game one.  Cindy Garces was 2 for 3 and Courtney Reeves went 2 for 4 with a double and triple and 2 RBIs.

Game two, the Blazers led 4-0 until the 6th inning.  Morgan led off the inning with a double to center followed with a 2 run homer by Courtney Reeves. Megan Aub singled to left with two outs followed by hits from Lauren Ohnesorge, Megan Ballegeer, and Anna Walschleger to tie the game 4-4.   Freshman Logger pitcher Jordan Kraft held the Blazers scoreless in the 6th.  LLCC then scored the lead run on a sacrifice fly by Megan Aubuchon, driving in Courtney Reeves who had reached on a walk.  The wheels came off in the 7th as the Loggers committed 4 fielding errors and two unearned runs to lose 6-5.

Lauren Ohnesorge led the Loggers offensively going 3 for 4. Megan Aubuchon was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.  Courtney Reeves 1for 3 with her 4th homer of the year and 2 RBIs. Jordan Kraft went 6.67 innings scattering 7 hits, striking out 4 and 6 runs (5 unearned).  Kraft is now 2-4 on the season.

"Jordan Kraft threw very well and deserved to win," stated coach John Marsaglia.  "We made 9 errors, and left 9 runners on base while still collecting 13 hits...very disappointing loss."

Lincoln Land will host John Wood tomorrow in another conference doubleheader starting at 1 pm.   The Loggers are now 11-7.
